Heirloom Hybrid Tea

I placed an order for spring delivery of eight own-root banded roses. I ordered off the internet from a nursery that got good reports. I got one of every color. Heirloom was my purple.

It arrived in March and was teeny tiny. I didn't expect them to be so small. But I planted them. Heirloom is positioned in the foremost spot along the front curve of the new flowerbed, next to Louise Odier. It's unfortunately not flourishing yet. It's getting a lot more shade than it would prefer. The jacaranda tree shades more than I realized. It's only put out a few flowers and the bush hasn't grown that much. I'm going to wait and see how it does in the next few years before giving up, though, or I'll transplant it if I find a good shade-loving rose to take its place.

EDIT: I dug up Heirloom and put her in a pot on the back deck in January 2010. Hopefully the spring push and extra sun will help her thrive.
