Louise Odier 2010

louise odier has a flower?!? January 2010
Louise Odier has been my biggest regret of the new roses I bought. I had high expectations. But I planted her in a place where she doesn't get enough sun, and it shows. It is a very stunted plant. I plan to transplant her to the back yard... but I'm going to wait a little while, because all of a sudden, for the first time since June, she has a flower!

None of the baby roses will get pruned, though. Not a good idea for their first year.

it's cute and tiny January 2010
This flower is probably half the size (or smaller) of any other rose. But it is still a baby plant, so that's some of the reason.

I'm still amazed at this flower. I haven't seen anything on that plant in so long... and even now, the plant itself looks horrible. It's just this one little shining spot of glory.

This is one of two old garden roses (the other is Zephirine Drouhin, my one and only climber). It's got a great smell. Hopefully it will do better once I transplant it to a sunnier spot.

One of the rescues from the too-shady front yard to a pot in the back yard. I'm really hoping this plant in particular will bounce back and thrive. New growth is coming out on the bare canes, so that's good.

I have at least three flowers to look forward to... these two and another one that's starting to form on another cane.

so many petals! March 2010
Louise Odier just opened up her first bud since moving to the pot on the deck. She looks so much happier. She's leafed out so it's not just bare canes, and there are already five buds, which is more than I got last year. The plant is still small overall and there's a long way to go, but I'm glad it's been a good change.

BTW, this is a very small rose. Most of my other roses range 4-5" across (some of the smaller Mardi Gras blooms are around 3"), but this rose is only 2" fully across.

More teeny tiny super-smelly roses! I always marvel at how much smaller these are from all my other roses, but they still pack in the smell.
