My friend Julie had come out to visit in early May 2008, and I took advantage of her gardening expertise while she was here. She instructed and helped me redo my front flower bed. When we were shopping for fragrant roses, she spotted Mardi Gras and fell in love with it. It wasn't quite as strong a scent as we were shopping for, but it did have a pleasant one and we were wowed by the vibrant colors. It was purchased and planted in my yard with the understanding that it is really Julie's rosebush. It just lives with me. :-) It was positioned in the bed to be the first rose you reach as you come up to the front walk. It's definitely an attention-grabber. It's rarely been out of bloom since it was planted. Even when it's going through growth spurts, there's almost always a bloom or two hanging around or starting to open. And when it's full of multicolored flowers, it's just gorgeous. I think the overall bush has one of the most pleasing shapes, too.
All in all, a very cheerful rose.
