My local garden center had a huge fall clearance sale in October 2009 that included 50% off roses. Like I could resist that. I went on the first day of the sale at opening and two hours later came home with four roses. This was one of them. Ever since I got the chance to smell the Pope, I've wanted this rose. But by then I had already ordered and planted Sweet Afton as my white rose... I didn't have any place for it, and I'd regretfully figured I wouldn't be able to have it for a long while. But that changed when I decided to try some container roses. I may end up planting this one in the long run, but for right now we'll see how it goes.
This is one of those super-powerful smelly roses. It's right up there with Neptune, Double Delight, and French Perfume. The smell that could give you a headache if you sniff too long. I love it. :D
