Rock & Roll 2009

rock & roll May 2009
My brand-new rose. :-) Bought it today and it's still in its pot because we didn't get home until late. I'll get it planted tomorrow.

I was working on the front flower bed today, and was really unhappy with the amount of bare space thanks to tree roots and pipes, especially because it's going to be years before the lemon and lime trees grow up. I want something there in the meantime! So I started digging around to try to get three spots for SOMEthing. I cut out some big tree roots and I think I have managed to get three spots. And, well, I think roses would do well. :> I don't want anything that will get too established, like a shrub.

So I have room for more roses! Dave even likes this one. (And it smells great.) He's suggested I transplant the ones from the back yard that I want to keep into the front yard because they'll have to go away when we redo the back yard... which makes SENSE, but... meh.

I think I'll end up with a mix... I'll transplant one or two and then get one or two new ones. Got one, so... I'll figure the rest out tomorrow.

almost time to rock & roll May 2009
Rock & Roll is about to open its second flower and the first since I planted it. It's looking awesome so far, and there's a second bud almost as far along.
let's rock and roll! June 2009
I wonder how soon I'll get tired of using flippant titles with this rose. Ah, well. This was what one of the new flowers looked like two days ago.

And GRRRR, one of the two now-opened flowers DISAPPEARED sometime overnight. No petals on the ground, no nothing on the ground, it's just gone. Cleanly clipped off. This was the one near the ground and nothing else in the garden has been touched as far as I could see. But, but, my ROSE! ARGH! A new one, too, that I was just beginning to fall in love with. Granted, there is still one flower on the plant. And more buds that look happy. But...

Mrf.

rockin' the salvia? June 2009
Rock & Roll isn't looking like the red/cream mix these days, but more pink/red swirl. I like it, but I like the cream more. Bah. Still, it pops up, especially as the blooms open. And they're still pretty and swirly. I'm guessing it's the warmer versus cooler temperatures, since I know many things turn darker pink in heat. There's a ton of new growth, though, and lots of buds forming. You can see the more bronzey new rowth on the upper leaves in the photo.

I still love the punches of purple that the salvia throws into the mix.

rock & roll September 2009
My front yard looks so lovely with so many roses in bloom: Double Delight, Sweet Afton, Mr. Lincoln, Rock & Roll (which has tons of flowers right now), Arizona, and the unknown tall red are all in bloom. Mardi Gras is about to launch a massive wave, too.

I love pulling up into the driveway and seeing my pretty yard.

it's rocking and rolling October 2009
There are so many flowers open on Rock & Roll right now. It's gorgeous. These aren't all of them. Such a good choice--and it's one that Dave helped with!
rock & roll October 2009
Newly-opened and smelling so good... I had my nose buried in this one for a while this morning.
rocking and rolling December 2009
I'm really happy with Rock & Roll. It finished up its last big round and quieted for a while, but now it's all budded up to go again. The white in the swirl is staying a bit whiter, too, since it's cooler outside.
rock & roll, finally with white swirls! December 2009
Yay for cooler weather, the white in Rock & Roll is staying white! I like it both ways, but I like it better with white.
feel the swirl December 2009
Love how many petals there are in this Rock & Roll rose.
a very white rock & roll December 2009
This is the most white I've seen on a Rock & Roll bloom... another indication of cooler weather!

A bee found it inviting. :)
